Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Service
Royal Oak is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider to join our robust Inpatient Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Service. Under the general guidance of the APP Manager, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department.

Essential duties include:
- Assessing the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
- Recognizing deviations from normal in the physical assessment and working in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
- Writing prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Determining eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
- Requesting written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Interpreting and evaluating findings of studies/tests.
- Relaying appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Administering therapeutic measures and obtaining specimens as prescribed.
- Evaluating the quality of care provided and recommending changes for improvement.
- Initiating appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
- Dictating follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
- Maintaining provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risk assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam).
- Dictating or writing patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes.
- Interacting with program assistants and data managers for optimal patient care.
- Assisting in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
- Conducting or participating in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensuring appropriate and quality care for assigned patient.
- Providing on-call coverage.
- Performing patient triage and determining the urgency of physician's evaluation.
- Providing symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
- Serve as the first point of contact for inpatient care for the plastic and reconstructive service, managing daily rounds both independently and in collaboration with residents, fellows, and attending surgeons.
- Complete documentation and billing in compliance with hospital standards.
- Ensure adherence to post-operative protocols and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support timely discharges.
- Manage direct admissions, including initial evaluation and coordination of care.
- Evaluate consults, formulate assessments, and propose plans of care in partnership with the surgical team.
- Perform wound management and dressing changes, including application and maintenance of wound vacs.
- Order and interpret appropriate imaging and laboratory studies to support clinical decision-making and patient care planning.
- Identify, order, and monitor appropriate pharmacologic agents in accordance with clinical guidelines and patient needs.
- Coordinate and discuss patient care with consulting services, ensuring collaborative and comprehensive treatment planning.
Standard qualifications include:
Education/Training:
- Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
Work Experience:
- 1 to 3 years' experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a specialty clinical setting, preferred.
- One (1) year of demonstrated experience as a PA/NP with surgical patient care.
- One (1) year of experience in Plastic Surgery as a PA/NP, inpatient experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of wound vacs.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a collaborative team.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
- AHA/ARC BLS certification required
