PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Nuclear Operations Technician is an entry-level, hands-on role in the Operations team that leads to becoming a licensed Reactor Operator and eventually a Senior Reactor Operator. Candidates who are selected for this position will undergo one year of initial non-licensed operator training. After successful completion, the candidate will join the operations team in a shift work capacity, which includes mandatory rotating day and night shifts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Monitor, control, and operate nuclear station equipment from the control room, including:
• Starting, stopping, and controlling nuclear reactors and auxiliary systems as needed.
• Starting, stopping, and controlling steam turbine and generator equipment to optimize station capability.
• Executing directives to begin, stop, adjust, test, and operate pumps, valves, and other system components.
• Monitoring control room indicators for optimal operation, and performing necessary calculations as per procedures.
• Responding to plant alarms, identifying emergency indicators, and executing emergency procedures as needed.
• Acting in compliance with administrative procedures and NRC licensing requirements, including shift turnovers and log maintenance.
• Taking necessary actions during plant transients and maintaining familiarity with emergency operating procedures.
• Participating in training and functions as part of the station fire brigade.
• Assisting shift supervision in coordinating the actions of the operations team.
• Identifying and addressing deficiencies through the station's Corrective Action program.
• Implementing tagging and system out-of-service requests effectively.
• Supporting refueling operations in compliance with procedural controls.
• Operating communications equipment as required.
• This role is a stepping stone for those looking to pursue a Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator license.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A High School Diploma or GED along with one of the following:
• Two years of experience in a non-generating nuclear power facility (e.g. Navy Nuclear training or DOE facility experience).
• A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related science field.
• 43 credit hours of higher education with 75% (at least 8 courses or 32 hours) in advanced math, physics, chemistry, or engineering/engineering technology.
• One year of relevant Power Plant Experience, including roles in fossil-fueled or nuclear-fueled electric power production, petrochemical processing, or steam propulsion systems.
