The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department offers a wide range of cardiac surgery. This position leverages the experience of an RN who recently retired to transfer knowledge to newer nurses within the organization. The RN delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.
• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during the procedure.

Minimum qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) – if performing moderate/procedural sedation.
• Three years of experience in an RN Surgery position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement.
• Demonstrated clinical competence.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications

• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).

Physical requirements

• Requires standing and walking for periods of time.
• May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal protective equipment

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
