The Multispecialty Surgery Coder will code for Multispecialty Surgery physicians with Single Path Coding. This role requires multi-specialty surgical coding experience (e.g., Trauma, Urology, ENT, Plastics, GenSurg, OB/GYN, Cardiovascular, Interventional Radiology, etc.). The coder must extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10 Diagnosis codes, along with CPT/HCPCS codes, for coding, billing, internal and external reporting, research as required, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the coder should accurately code conditions and procedures as documented and in accordance with ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/MAC rules, CPT rules, and other official coding guidelines. The coder may review coding-related payer denials and recommend actions to resolve claims based on payer guidelines.

This position is full time and 100% remote.

What You Will Do

• Demonstrate the ability to perform quality surgical coding and multispecialty chart types as assigned.
• Maintain a working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing.
• Ensure all services documented are coded with appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes; obtain proper documentation when needed according to facility standards.
• Achieve and maintain 97% accuracy in coding while maintaining productivity; accuracy monitored monthly.
• Maintain average productivity standards as applicable.
• Review the queue daily to ensure charts are worked and communicate corrections to the facility as necessary.
• Correct and communicate re-bill requirements to the facility daily; follow facility re-bill policy.
• Report downtime to administrative staff to ensure turnaround is met.
• Work with IQC staff to ensure quality standards for each facility.
• Provide accurate answers to physicians/hospitals coding and/or billing questions within eight hours of request.
• Code or pending every chart placed in the queue within 24 hours; notify staff if the 24-hour target cannot be met.
• Check Guidehouse email system at least every two hours during coding sessions.
• Maintain current professional credentials while employed by Guidehouse.
• Familiarize with the Guidehouse coding website and use it as a daily tool for coding and abstracting for each facility.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant workstations and adhere to coding division policy and procedure manuals.
• Collaborate with other members of the coding and billing team to maximize efficiency and reimbursement for properly documented services.
• Escalate coding principle discrepancies to supervisor promptly; maintain professional email communication.

What You Will Need

• High School Diploma/GED
• One of the following professional coding certifications: CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS
• Successful completion of a formal training course beyond apprentice level for medical technicians or equivalent
• Must maintain credentials throughout employment
