Cardiac Rhythm Assessment Specialist

Performs basic patient cardiac rhythm assessments, identifies deviations, and documents responses to rhythm change interventions.

Responsibilities

1. Monitoring Skills- able to interpret normal and abnormal rhythms, able to recognize artifact.

Identifies and prioritizes problems according to the patients' assessed needs. Ensures patient rhythm strips are re-assessed in accordance with needs and standards.

2. Monitoring Skills- demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring lead based on patient presentation. Initiates appropriate resources to achieve standard of care based on assessed rhythm. Organizes daily routine to complete all assigned tasks.

3. Monitoring Skills- records and saves cardiac rhythm strips at start of every shift and every four hours or as needed and during emergencies. Records rate, rhythm, PR, ORS, QT intervals and assigns interpretation. Identifies and records pacemaker related information. Records continuous strips during emergency/code situations. Recognizes and responds appropriately to changes in patient's monitored rhythm.

4. Monitoring Skills- Works with team during both admissions and transfers to maintain monitored status; obtains baseline data within ten minutes of admission or return to unit.

Posts telemetry strips on patient records in an accurate and timely fashion; assures 100% accuracy with patient identification protocols when posting strips and other patient information in the medical records.

5. Monitoring Skills- Sets alarm parameters every shift, upon return from off unit and as needed. Tests alarm function every shift and as needed. Verifies alarm settings with registered nurse and modifies patient alarms according to assessed monitor changes and/or as directed by RN or as per physician order.

6. Notification- alerts nurse to abnormal cardiac rhythm, change in rate, ST elevation or depression and/or vital signs on monitor. Communicates any life threatening rhythms to the patients nurse/charge nurse immediately.

7. Notification- reports any telemetry related malfunctions to charge nurse and nursing supervisor.

8. Immediately Notification- Recognizes own limitations and asks for assistance appropriately, able to identify and prioritize issues.

9. Notification-remains at monitoring post until relieved by team member and signs off to covering staff with like competencies.

10. Equipment- cleans telemetry boxes per infection prevention guidelines, test batteries proactively and maintains appropriate supply levels. When identifies battery low life, immediately seeks to change battery.

Education/Other Qualifications:

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience: No previous experience is required. 1 to 2 years of job-related experience preferred.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: American Heart Association BLS CPR required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire. Successful annual completion of Basic Rhythm Competency.
