Summary:

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in conducting initial patient testing and performing administrative tasks to support the clinical operations at UNC Health Care System.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Guide patients on preparation for tests requiring fasting and address any inquiries they may have.
2. Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues.
3. Provide assistance in educating Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and the training of new staff.
4. Monitor daily operations within your assigned laboratory section.
5. Engage in special projects and assignments both individually and as part of a team.
6. Conduct a variety of routine and standardized tests, preparing and analyzing specimens as necessary. Ensure proper labeling and storage of samples.
7. Prepare reagents and assist in the creation of standard and control materials. Help manage inventory and supplies.
8. Document and record test results, promptly reporting any abnormal results to your supervisor or the ordering physician.

Additional Information:

Education Requirements:
An Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Science, or Biological Science is required.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Candidates with an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology must be ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligible, obtaining certification within one year. Those with degrees in chemical or biological sciences must hold ASCP or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification.

Experience Requirements:
No previous experience is required.

Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
