nMECHANICAL ENGINEER, SOFT GOODS
nAt the SpaceX Bloomfield office, a Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the continued development and production of critical parachutes and other specialized soft-good components for all programs across SpaceX (Dragon, Falcon, Starship and Starlink). Each of these programs plays a part of ultimately extending humankind's reach to the moon, Mars, and beyond.
nRESPONSIBILITIES:

Own the design and development of various soft-good designs (parachutes, slings, protective blankets, closeouts etc.)
n n - n
Perform analysis on, and produce drawings of designs including hand calculations, FEA, and CAD in a rapidly changing environment
n n - n
Lead design reviews internally and externally with suppliers and customers
n n - n
Be responsible for project delivery timeline from early design through testing, production, launch, and recovery
n n - n
Exemplify technical excellence and be accountable for your work

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or physics
n n - n
1+ years experience with CAD and FEA software packages (internship and extracurricular experience is applicable)
n n - n
1+ years of hands on experience driving the design and development of mechanical components or systems (internship and project team experience is applicable)
n n
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Leadership experience on an engineering or project team
n n - n
Experience designing components on a high-performance vehicle
n n - n
Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organizational skills
n n - n
Experience working with design, analysis and build of soft-good components
n n - n
Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast data driven decisions
n n - n
Willingness and desire to exemplify extreme ownership of flight critical spacecraft systems
n n - n
Proactive problem-solving skills such as failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation
n n - n
Prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
n n - n
Master's degree in an engineering discipline
n n
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Ability to travel to remote sites in Texas, Florida, and California as needed
n n - n
Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
n n
