Machine Operator

The Level III Machinist is responsible for executing metal cutting, drilling, grinding, and deburring tasks according to blueprint and instruction specifications within a large machine shop environment. This role requires handling raw materials, operating CNC machines, and ensuring quality checks throughout the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate CNC machines, transport material, and operate wash tanks.
• Use forklift and pallet jack for material handling and staging.
• Perform quality checks using dial gauges, calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
• Deburr parts and conduct 'cut plug' operations using air-powered tools.
• Offload machines with finished parts and support general helper duties.
• Troubleshoot and solve everyday production problems.
• Maintain production, quality, housekeeping, and adhere to operation standards.
• Ensure flexibility to move between machines as needed.

Essential Skills:

• Experience in a manufacturing environment, especially with machines.
• Proficiency in running CNC machines.
• Baseline experience with gauging and quality measuring equipment.
• Skill in using calipers, micrometers, dial bores, and steel rulers.
• Experience with sit-down and stand-up forklifts.
• Strong math skills for measurement accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Ability to perform quality inspections on finished parts.
• Deburring experience.

Work Environment:

The machine shop is a large facility with over 500 employees operating across five shifts, including weekends. The facility prioritizes safety with minimal debris and provides PPE such as steel-toe shoes, earplugs, and protective glasses. Shifts vary from day, evening, and night, with opportunities for overtime on Saturdays.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.47 - $24.47/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
