Licensed Practical Nurse (Nights) - Homeless Shelter

A growing social service agency is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join their team.

About the Opportunity:

• Shift: Nights
• Schedule: 1 shift per week, Wednesdays
• Hours: 8pm-8am
• Setting: Homeless shelter

• Assists with calling for refills
• Assures safe storage of medications
• Ensures that clients have appropriate supplies and access to medications
• Monitors client reactions for side effects and reporting to prescribing provider
• Provides nursing screening of all new clients
• Assists in connecting psychiatric, medical and substance abuse problems to appropriate providers
• Participates in clinical meetings with medical staff, shelter case management, & administrative staff
• Communicates regularly with on-site psychiatric and medical providers, case managers and on-site operations & administrative staff
• Administers medications ordered by the providers; administers injections ordered by providers
• Provides medication teaching as needed
• Assists clients with self-administer medications
• Provides ongoing health education and support to clients
• Performs other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

• Active New York State Licensed Practical Nurse license
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
• 3 years of clinical experience working as a nurse with the mental health or substance abuse population
• Experience working with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
• Must have knowledge Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and Excel
• Must have excellent oral and listening skills
• Must have the ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff
