Job Title: Lead Medical Technologist

Department: CPH Laboratory Services

Location: Canton - Potsdam Hospital

Hours Per Week: Full time, 40 scheduled weekly hours

Schedule: 8 hour variable shift

SUMMARY: Join our dedicated medical team as a Lead Medical Technologist, where you will play a critical role in performing clinical laboratory analyses and examinations using approved procedures. Your expertise will help streamline diagnoses and optimize treatment plans for patients. You will utilize your advanced problem-solving skills to resolve complex clinical and instrument issues, ensuring high-quality laboratory services that fully comply with regulatory standards. Weekend and holiday supervisory coverage may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform testing accurately and within designated timeframes.
• Interpret clinical test results, correlating them with patient history and conditions for effective communication to ensure timely actions.
• Report critical lab results and communicate any equipment delays to medical personnel.
• Conduct quality control, maintenance, and troubleshoot instruments as needed.
• Prepare reagents and manage laboratory inventory efficiently while focusing on cost containment.
• Supervise laboratory staff during weekends and holidays as needed.
• Utilize required computer functions for testing orders, performance, results, and workflow management.
• Coordinate training for new and existing staff on procedures and instruments, acting as a technical resource.
• Engage in teaching opportunities and assist in complex diagnostic procedures.
• Contribute to research and development of new technologies and report findings to management.
• Perform other duties as required by the manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science, with relevant experience recognized by New York State for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
• Current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or valid limited permit.
• Valid New York State driver's license if travel is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a Medical Technology Laboratory.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory is advantageous.
• Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a laboratory setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires medium work, involving lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently, with standing and walking as essential activities.
