Lab Technician III - Anatomic Pathology

This role involves helping to lead and supervise workflow, organizing day-to-day operations, and supporting training efforts. Responsibilities include troubleshooting issues, maintaining clear communication with pathologists, and overseeing the management of consult cases. This is not a clinical lab position; rather, it focuses on administrative and operational tasks such as data entry and test ordering, with no work performed in the physical lab environment.

A caregiver in this position works days, 6:00am-3:30pm. No calls/weekends or holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Receive and accession specimens into the LIS.

• Conduct higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testing.

• Conduct advanced tracking investigations.

• Serve as a subspecialty client liaison.

• Be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA).

• Perform tasks involved with frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation).

• Create cell block slides, perform clinical histology tissue embedding and assist in Cytology adequacy assessments.

• Prepare specimens for analysis.

• Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).

• Run and resolve LIS logs.

• Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens.

• Perform logistic activities within and outside of lab.

• Use tracking software/devices.

• Comply with safety, SOP & regulations.

• Maintain appropriate documentation.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Associate's Degree (preferably in Science) and two years of lab processing experience

• OR four years of Lab Technician or comparable processing experience

• OR active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS Program

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Medical Laboratory Science

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.

• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

• Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.

• Handles and transports bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens.

• Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.

• Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
