This position is offering up to $50,000 in signing bonus for external candidates as well as internal per diem to full time conversions!
Summary
The primary responsibility is to set up and assist the physicians in performing a variety of interventional procedures, which require sterile technique, introduction of medical devices into designated areas of the body and operation of a variety of medical equipment, including CT equipment. This specialized multimodality role requires specific knowledge of cross-sectional human anatomy and its application in computed tomography, inclusive of post processing applications and including drainages, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations combined with Cardiovascular-interventional (CV) which uses specialized equipment to perform diagnostic angiographic procedures and complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures.
Experience
Minimum of one year radiological technologist experience preferred. Prior experience in an IR or Cardiology lab favorable. Prefer CT/VI certification to qualify. This is a Multimodality IR staff position with ability to operate Computed Tomography equipment and must be credentialed in VI IR/CT within 18 months if not already obtained
Education
Certification from an approved Radiological Technology Program (Two years).
Licenses:
Essential Functions
ARRT(R) certification required, Advanced certification ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CV) preferred.
- Practices sterile technique. Assists the physicians with procedures, performs scrub duties according to standard care plan, physician preference, policy and procedure
- Prepares sterile table and environment for interventional procedures
- Positions patient to get optimal imaging of anatomic structures. This is critical to minimize radiation exposure and the injection volumes of contrast agents.
- Practices radiation safety for patients and staff safety at all times
- Learn radiological computer functions and equipment controls in areas of IR and the Operating room
- Utilizes highly sophisticated equipment such as computerized tomography scanners, computerized fluoroscopy, biplane imaging, pressure injectors, patient monitors, etc. taking education, training, and available resources into account for appropriate usage
- Maintains clean, safe work environment
- Provide patient care within the IR technologists scope of practice
- Complete understanding of the functionality of the EPIC and PACS programs as they relate to IR
- Basic scheduling functions to coordinate procedures with physicians, imaging modalities, Anesthesia and required supplies
- Provide staff and patient education for post procedural care
- Maintaining regulatory training per hospital policy
- Internal: Extensive contact with patients, radiologists, nursing personnel, receptionists, patient transporters, file clerks, referring physicians.
- External: Contact with vendors to discuss new supplies, service, and equipment etc. After installation of new equipment, staff must go through an in-service on function of equipment.
- Patient Care: The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit. Age groups can include infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Interventional Radiology equipment including but not limited to imaging equipment, power injectors, thrombectomy pumps, ablation generators, and computers.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing (1 to 4 hours per case), stooping, stretching, lifting, and assisting patients from stretchers/wheelchairs to examining tables. Ability to work wearing lead apron (2-3 pounds) for up to 6-7 hours / day. Able to push patients beds and wheelchairs. Able to work in sterile surroundings at a set-up table handing physician supplies needed during procedure.
Mental Demands:
Ability to effectively deal with patients who may be under physical and emotional stress. Specialized duties including but not limited to planning and prioritizing own work; clear objectives that impact others; varied procedures and techniques; non-routine, technical, treatment, operational problems and general guidance.
Job Hazards:
- Normal irradiation and chemoradiation hazards
- Occasional exposure to minor hazards that could cause relatively minor injury (first aid type injuries) or illness
Stressful situations. Lifesaving procedures. Constant exposure to terminally ill and psychiatric patients, as well as periodic exposure to severe trauma patients. Occasional colostomy or draining wound patients. As well as patients with need for isolation precautions.
