Inpatient Pharmacy Technician II - Investigational Drugs

The Certified Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications under their supervision. This position focuses on clinical trial medications, emphasizing patient safety, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This role is part of our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, offering $5000 in commitment incentives over two years, with payments made after six months, one year, and two years of service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work at two locations, rotating as necessary:
• UNC Medical Center
• UNC Central Investigational Drug Services
• Adapt to various technician roles based on operational needs.
• Respond to urgent email communications from research teams regarding the dispensing of investigational drugs.
• Maintain organized and compliant clinical trial documents.
• Prepare and compound medications, including high-risk processes, under pharmacist supervision.
• Package and ship medications to satellite pharmacies, adhering to strict temperature regulations.
• Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, restocking, and monitoring expiration dates.
• Communicate with clinical research sponsors regarding investigational drug inventory and assist with audits.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork in all departmental interactions.
• Assist in training new employees, teaching them essential job functions.
• Conduct regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas and maintain necessary documentation.
• Contribute daily to operational workload completion.

Additional Information:

Education: No specific requirements, but completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy and CPhT or ExCPT certification is required unless you are enrolled in a PharmD program.

Experience: Prior experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); experience with Epic is beneficial.
