Summary:

As a key member of our team, you will perform essential daily duties that support pathologists and histology technicians, such as accessioning specimens, conducting grossing procedures, preparing cassettes, and completing various computer-related tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Exceed the expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Accession all surgical, cytological, and autopsy specimens, allocating unique accession numbers while ensuring proper fixatives and patient identification.
• Maintain organized files for paraffin blocks and microscope slides, ensuring all surgical, autopsy, bone marrow, and cytology blocks and slides are properly stored.
• Assist pathologists with grossing surgical specimens, conducting autopsies, and fine needle aspirate biopsies, which includes preparation, aspiration assistance, slide preparation and staining, and processing specimens according to established protocols.
• Prepare fixatives, staining solutions, mounting media, and decalcifying solutions as requested by the pathologist, utilizing standard techniques and reviewing stain quality.
• Conduct specimen searches and retrieve slides and blocks to aid in diagnosis establishment.
• Demonstrate competence in responsibilities to meet the developmental needs of the patients served by the department.
• Adapt assessment and treatment methods to accommodate the unique needs of each patient based on their physical, psychosocial, and cultural factors as well as age-specific requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the team's needs.
