Overview

A General Manager must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our Customers succeed and growing our business with integrity. This is a professional level sales and management position capable of supporting functions on both sides of the business. The role requires understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge and the ability to identify, troubleshoot and provide project assistance for DIY. The GM is responsible for developing and maintaining Professional Customer relationships and program growth, and for achieving financial metrics while maintaining service and appearance standards. This is an exempt position requiring a minimum of 50-55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). The typical schedule is 5-6 days per week, about 11 hours per day, including rotating nights and weekends with an hour for lunch. Additional hours may be required based on staffing, store conditions, sales targets, and other business needs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives
• Manage and grow Professional Customer relationships/sales, including building and guiding the team to execute Customer action plans
• Recruiting, hiring, developing, performance management, coaching, scheduling and engagement of store Team Members
• Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards
• Coach Team Members to deliver on Customer expectations (DIY and Professional)
• Manager on duty responsibilities (coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, opening/closing duties)
• Ability to lead change management
• Foster diversity and a respectful environment for Customers and Team Members

Secondary Responsibilities

• Provide DIY services including battery installation, testing, wiper install, etc.
• Assist District/Region in other functions upon request

• Ability to build and grow relationships with Professional Customers

Essential Job Skills

• Working knowledge of automotive systems (preferred)
• Speak and write English; Spanish is a plus; effective communication with Customers, peers and management
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint preferred
• Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, sales increases and gross profit percent
• Ability to review and analyze business reports including P&L
• Hold others accountable and provide constructive feedback to improve performance
• Ability to work a variety of days, evenings and weekends as needed
• 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 in a fast-paced retail environment
• Experience managing profitability and strong business acumen

Education

• High school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in business or related area preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• ASE certification preferred but not required

Physical Demands

The role requires standing or walking most of the day, with the ability to talk, hear and use hands. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and noise levels are usually moderate.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary will likely be between $53,000 and $69,000 plus Bonus. Actual salary determined by hiring manager based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include 401(k) with company match (fully vested up to 4%), medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, life insurance, STD/LTD, pet insurance, and EAP. Travel for training may be required. Sales commissions and bonus structure described by the company.
