Overview

A General Manager must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our customers succeed, and growing the business with integrity. This is a professional level sales and management position capable of supporting functions on both sides of the business. The role requires understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge, and the ability to identify, troubleshoot and project assist for DIY. The General Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining Professional Customer relationships and program growth, achieving financial metrics, and maintaining service and appearance standards. This is an exempt position requiring a minimum of 50-55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks); the average schedule is 5-6 days a week, 11 hour shifts, with rotating nights and weekends and a lunch break. Additional hours may be required based on staffing, store conditions, sales to target, and other business demands.

Responsibilities

• Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives
• Manage and grow Professional Customer relationships/sales, including building and holding team accountable to executing Customer action plans
• Recruiting, selecting, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling and engagement of store team members
• Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards
• Coach all team members to deliver on customer expectations (DIY and Professional)
• Manager on duty responsibilities (touch base, coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, open/close duties)
• Ability to lead change management
• Embrace diversity and foster a respectful environment for customers and team members

Secondary Responsibilities

• Provide DIY service including battery installation, testing, wiper installation, etc.
• Assist District/Region in other functions upon request

Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a General Manager

• Working knowledge of automotive systems (preferred)
• Speak and write English; Spanish a plus; communicate effectively with customers, peers and upper management
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel (PowerPoint preferred)
• Calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percent
• Ability to review and analyze business reports, such as P&L
• Hold others accountable, inspect work quality and provide constructive feedback
• Ability to work a variable schedule including days, evenings and weekends as needed

Prior Experience

• 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 in a fast-paced retail environment
• Experience managing profitability with strong financial and business acumen

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. ASE Certification is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary will likely be between $40,000 and $55,000 plus Bonus. Actual salary is negotiable and will be determined by the hiring manager later in the process. Bonus is calculated on two metrics: 6% commission on every comp dollar paid every 4 weeks, and 0.45% commission on every controllable profit dollar paid quarterly.

Benefits: 1st Day 401k eligibility with company match up to 4%; after 30 days medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, life, STD/LTD, pet insurance, and EAP. Travel for training may be required.

Additional Details

GM I stores operate with a schedule of 52–55 hours per week, including one weekend off per month, and typically involve a team of 6-10 TMs and regular freight from a distribution center weekly. The GM is responsible for operational and customer service excellence, 4 Wall OI control (Labor, Payroll, Scheduling), and maintaining Professional Customer relationships and program growth. The role includes enforcing company policy, procedures, and training while holding the team accountable to standards.
