Overview

General Manager I Store 9756 Baton Rouge LA role at Advance Auto Parts . This is a professional level sales and management position responsible for inspiring the team, helping customers succeed, and growing the business with integrity. The role requires understanding store systems, automotive systems, and parts knowledge, with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and project assist for DIY customers. The GM is accountable for achieving financial metrics and maintaining service and appearance standards. This is an exempt position with a minimum of 50-55 hours per week, typically 5-6 days per week with 11 hour shifts, including rotating nights and weekends. Additional hours may be required based on staffing, store conditions, sales targets, and other business demands.

Primary Responsibilities

• Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives
• Manage and grow Professional Customer relationships and sales, including building and holding the team accountable to executing Customer action plans
• Recruit, select, hire, develop, manage performance, coach, schedule, and engage store team members
• Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards
• Coach team members to deliver on Customer expectations (DIY and Professional)
• Fulfill manager-on-duty responsibilities (coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, open/close duties)
• Lead change management and foster a diverse, respectful environment for Customers and Team Members

Secondary Responsibilities

• Provide DIY service including battery installation, testing, wiper installation, etc.
• Assist District/Region in other functions as requested

Required Skills and Success Factors

• Friendly communication and ability to locate and stock parts
• Safety knowledge and the ability to apply it in daily operations
• Ability to become ASE P2 certified or ASE-ready equivalent
• Ability to execute and train on project and product quality recommendations
• Advanced parts lookup and sourcing, including multiple channels
• Ability to execute and train all store operational processes and procedures, and use testing/diagnostic equipment for DIY services
• Ability to execute and train inventory systems and store equipment
• Ability to execute and train POS and Parts lookup systems
• Ability to review and analyze P&L statements
• Ability to recruit, select, hire, and develop quality Team Members
• Ability to build and grow relationships with Professional Customers

Essential Job Skills

• Working knowledge of automotive systems (preferred)
• Speak and write English; Spanish is a plus; effective communication with Customers, peers, and upper management
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint preferred
• Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percent
• Ability to review and analyze business reports including P&L
• Hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and provide constructive feedback
• Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends as needed

Experience and Education

• 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 in a fast-paced retail environment
• Proven profitability management and business acumen
• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
• Valid driver’s license required; ASE certification preferred but not required

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires walking/standing most of the day, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include standard close, distance, color, and depth perception. Work environment is primarily inside with occasional exposure to weather, moving mechanical parts, and other hazards. Noise level is usually moderate.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary will likely be between $45,000 and $58,000 plus Bonus. Actual salary is negotiable and determined by the hiring manager. Bonus is based on two metrics: (1) 6% commission on every comp dollar paid every 4 weeks, and (2) 0.45% commission of every controllable profit dollar paid quarterly. Benefits include 401(k) with company match (fully vested up to 4%), medical/dental/vision after 30 days, PTO, life, STD/LTD, pet insurance, and EAP. Travel for training may be required (approximately 1 week).
