Hours Per Week: 40 (Regularly work over 40)

Schedule: 12 Hour night shifts, variable schedule, weekends, holidays. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays (could work additional shifts)

SUMMARY:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a critical role in responding to emergencies by providing immediate medical care and ensuring safe transport of patients to medical facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Respond to emergency calls, assess patients' conditions, and execute appropriate medical interventions, coordinating with dispatch as needed.
• Transport patients safely while continuously monitoring their condition and offering necessary care during transit.
• Administer CPR, manage airways, control bleeding, and provide other essential life-saving measures to stabilize patients.
• Utilize important medical equipment such as defibrillators and oxygen delivery systems effectively.
• Collaborate with paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, and hospital staff to ensure coordinated care and communicate the nature of injuries as required.
• Maintain precision in patient care reports, documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately.
• Ensure that emergency vehicles and medical equipment are clean and ready for use.
• Interpret various instructions and calculate necessary medical ratios.
• Assist in lifting and moving patients, often in challenging environments.
• Engage in ongoing education to remain updated with medical protocols and enhance skills.
• Exhibit composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work in various uncontrolled and potentially hazardous environments (indoor/outdoor, inclement weather, confined spaces).
• Maintain physical readiness to assist in lifting/moving patients and medical equipment.
• Perform physical tasks such as walking, kneeling, crawling, and climbing in emergency situations.
• Transport essential medical equipment without assistance.
• Stay calm and focused in high-stress situations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
• Valid NYS Basic EMT certification.
• Valid NYS Driver's License.
• Capability for heavy work, exerting varying degrees of force to move objects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of medical procedures and emergency care techniques.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Constant walking, standing or squatting is required.
