About the Role

Smurfit Westrock is seeking skilled and dependable Forklift Operators to join our warehouse operations in Houston, TX . This is a fast-paced, physically active role ideal for individuals with strong forklift skills and a solid work ethic. You'll play a key role in our shipping and inventory processes while working safely and efficiently.

Top Requirements:

1. Ability to load and unload trucks efficiently

2. Ability to move unpalletized materials safely

3. Experience in inventory management

4. (Preferred) Bilingual - English & Spanish

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and care for the forklift in a safe and efficient manner

• Load and unload trailers, including sheet orders with or without pallets

• Take finished product from unitizer line and store in designated shipping locations

• Scan and track all units accurately in the system

• Verify unit and load tag accuracy; report discrepancies immediately

• Conduct and document daily forklift inspections ; report maintenance needs

• Ensure all outbound loads meet quality and packaging standards (bands, wrap, cover sheets)

• Deliver stock to machines and retrieve finished goods

• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe stacks in storage areas

• Transfer and update inventory locations manually and in the system

• Hand-wrap and hand-unitize loads as needed

• Assist other forklift operators as required

• Follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures

• Maintain timely and accurate paperwork

• Regular and punctual attendance is mandatory

• Comply with company policies, safety protocols, and housekeeping standards

• Learn and adhere to all local and company safety procedures and rules

• Promptly report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe practices

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED

• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking basic English

• Ability to work overtime as required (approx. 58 hrs/week)

• Prior experience operating shipping forklifts is required

• Experience in the corrugated box industry is preferred

• Ability to lift 25-50 lbs consistently

• Able to read a tape measure quickly and accurately

• Strong physical condition and ability to handle warehouse demands

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, frequent hand/arm use

• Occasional lifting/moving up to 10 lbs; heavier lifting may be required regularly

• Use of computers, phones, scanners

• Noise levels typical of an active warehouse/manufacturing environment

• May work in confined areas and/or seated at a terminal for extended periods
