Job Description

We are seeking a Fiber Designer to support the expansion of rural broadband through the Enhanced Alternative Connect America Cost Model (E-ACAM) program. This multi-year initiative aims to deploy and support high-speed broadband services to rural areas. The Fiber Designer will assist in creating OSP Design maps using GIS, handling multiple projects across various locations and states.

Responsibilities

  Design OSP projects in multiple locations and states.

  Create project cost estimates including labor, material, and overheads.

  Utilize GIS tools to design fiber network builds within a GIS platform, collaborating with other OSP Engineering associates.

  Create and perform analysis on fiber network designs for OSP teams using GIS tools and extensions.

Essential Skills

• n

  2-5+ years of telecommunications experience.

  n

• n

  Proficiency in ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro.

• n

  Experience in telephony or related fields.

  n
n
• n

  Understanding of telecommunications industry principles.

  n

• n

  Knowledge of NESC construction practices and engineering standards.

  n

• n

  Excellent leadership, customer relations, and communication skills.

• n

  Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  n

• n

  Strong written and oral communication skills.

  n

• n

  Proficiency in PC database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

  Ability to read and assess fiber and/or HFC designs and prints.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  Experience in GIS/ArcGIS is highly valued.

  Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with diverse workgroups.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote, with fiber work primarily across central regions. Candidates must have their own desktop computer capable of creating a VPN connection to a remote desktop provided by the company, which will supply all necessary software and connections. The role offers 7 holidays and 2-3 weeks of PTO. Engineering training will be provided as needed. The employee will report to a manager who oversees their workload, provides quality control, and trains them on systems design.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Madison, Wisconsin. (3+years long)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00/hr.
