Job Summary
The Echocardiographer (Echo Technologist) is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations to evaluate the structure and function of the heart. Working closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals, the Echo Technologist uses advanced ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality images that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions. This role demands technical expertise, patient care skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities

Perform transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms as ordered by physicians.

Acquire and analyze high-quality cardiac ultrasound images using appropriate techniques and protocols.

Collaborate with cardiologists to discuss findings and ensure optimal diagnostic accuracy.

Document and report preliminary findings accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).

Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment, ensuring readiness for patient care.

Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process and answering questions to ensure comfort and cooperation.

Ensure adherence to infection control standards and safety protocols during all procedures.

Assist with training and orientation of new staff or students as needed.

Participate in quality improvement activities and maintain continuing education requirements.

Required Qualifications

Associateâ€™s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent education/training.

Minimum of 1â€“2 years of experience in echocardiography.

Proficient in performing and interpreting echocardiographic exams.

Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Basic computer literacy and familiarity with EMR systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelorâ€™s degree in a health-related field.

Experience in a hospital or high-volume cardiology clinic setting.

Certifications

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) â€“ Required

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification â€“ Required

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) â€“ Preferred

Education: Bachelors Degree
Certification: Basic Life Support , Advanced Cardiac Life Support
