HCU and unit overview

The Hematology/Oncology Care Unit (HCU) includes the inpatient and outpatient Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The 32-bed inpatient unit admits children of all ages with hematological and/or oncologic conditions and blood and marrow transplant needs. The unit works closely with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic and Infusion Clinic to meet patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct the overall operations of a function or department within a business unit; monitor the delivery of health care and related services.
• Manage people, resources, budget, and processes to ensure successful patient outcomes; may lead several distinct departments that impact operations.
• Oversight for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Outpatient and Infusion Clinic, coordinating outpatient care for hematology, oncology, blood and marrow transplant, allergy, immunology, and rheumatology patients; supervise outpatient treatment procedures including outpatient chemotherapy, blood transfusions, apheresis, extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) protocol management, and long-term follow-up.
• Coordinate with inpatient and outpatient teams to integrate care across services and improve patient experience and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree preferred; BSN if Master’s Degree is not in Nursing (required).
• MSN (preferred).
• Ten years nursing experience, including seven years or progressive supervisory/management experience (required).
