Job Title: Director of Civil Engineering

Location: Chicago, IL

Salary: $150,000-$170,000+ Bonus

Description: LHH Recruitment Solutions is currently seeking a Director of Civil Engineering to join our client's organization in the Chicago, IL area.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the civil engineering practice, focusing on municipal and site design.
• Develop and execute strategic direction with firm leadership.
• Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and technical excellence.
• Oversee project delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Provide technical leadership and participate in major projects.
• Manage internal operations to improve efficiency and innovation.
• Monitor financial performance and ensure profitability of the group.
• Hire, mentor, and manage a diverse team of professionals.
• Lead employee development, training, and succession planning.
• Represent the firm at industry events and associations.
• Pursue grants and technical assistance for clients.
• Drive cross-sector collaboration and new business opportunities.
• Participate in professional associations, publish work, and speak at conferences.
• Support contract negotiations and client engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (PE preferred).
• 8+ years of civil engineering experience, including 3+ years in management.
• Strong background in transportation-related projects and design oversight.
• Experience with agency coordination and project approvals.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
• Excellent time and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
• Exposure to business development and eagerness to grow executive skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (typically once per month or less).
