Dental Hygienist - Dental Hygienist (Varied) Kalamazoo

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing preventive oral health education and dental hygiene services patients.
Please note, the Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are minimum work requirements at the Family Health Center.
NOTE: 60$ rate may be adjusted based upon experience of presented candidates.
Assignment Location: 505 E Alcott, Kalamazoo, MI
Must be comfortable with full-cycle care delivery: Seating to X-Rays to Cleaning Operatory
Must be comfortable working with diverse patient populations (fully insured, uninsured, physical/mental limitations, etc)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with administrative staff/front desk staff to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency.
Accurately chart each patient's periodontal health.
Counsel patients on oral health, including the role of nutrition.
Check on patient comfort during treatment and help allay patient anxiety.
Apply cavity-preventative agents, such as fluorides and sealants.
Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients.
Accurately and appropriately record provided treatment.
Take radiographs for patients as prescribed by dentist.
Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act.
Perform scaling, root planning and selective polishing or patients as appropriate.
Review patient health and dental history forms and update as necessary.
Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures.
Counsel patients in Tobacco Cessation.
Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with office policies and procedures and all applicable legal requirements, such as the HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a clinical dental setting. Contact with patients and staff.
Exposed to medicinal preparations, communicable disease, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Requires at times, working in fast-paced clinical setting, in emergency situations or during irregular hours.

Traveler must be willing to work Thanksgiving holiday, including Friday and weekend after and the Christmas Eve to New Year Day block (If Needed/Scheduled). RTO during this holiday will not be approved. Thanks!

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 2 years current experience required
Michigan Dental Hygiene license required at upload
Associate degree in Dental Hygiene required
Experience with Cavitron Required
Dentrix EMR Experience required
Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
Good interpretation skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Must be familiar with Microsoft office and capable of learning electronic healthcare systems software.
Previous Travel - HIGHLY PREFERRED

Family Health Center opened in 1971 in a converted trailer and is now a non-profit, 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center serving the citizens of Kalamazoo County, with a focus on underserved patients. FHC consists of five high-quality health care facilities with state-of-the-art services, including mobile health and dental clinics.
The Alcott Center is a 50,000 square foot family health clinic that includes a state-of-the-art Dental Clinic. The four-floor building has 24 exam rooms and 25 operational rooms, giving it the capacity to serve 30,000 patients. The Alcott Center also houses Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, a Pharmacy, Lab Space and general health and Pediatrics. Same day scheduling is also available.
