Job Summary:
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the microscopic examination of cell samples to detect abnormalities and assist in the diagnosis of diseases such as cancer. Working in a clinical laboratory setting, the Cytotechnologist plays a vital role in patient care by identifying precancerous, malignant, and infectious conditions through the evaluation of cytological specimens.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and examine slides of cell samples from body sites (e.g., Pap smears, body fluids, fine needle aspirations).

Use microscopes to analyze cellular patterns and morphology for signs of disease.

Accurately record and report cytological findings in accordance with laboratory protocols.

Collaborate with pathologists to review abnormal or suspicious cases.

Maintain accurate and organized documentation and records.

Ensure all lab equipment is used properly and maintained according to protocols.

Follow strict quality control and quality assurance standards.

Comply with all laboratory safety procedures and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelorâ€™s degree in Cytotechnology, Biology, or a related field.

Completion of an accredited Cytotechnology program.

Certification as a Cytotechnologist (e.g., ASCP certification).

Proficiency in microscopic examination and familiarity with laboratory equipment.

Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory.

Familiarity with digital pathology or automated cytology screening systems.

Advanced certification in molecular cytology or related specialties.

Certifications:

Certified Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

Compliance with state licensure requirements, if applicable.

Education: Bachelors Degree
