Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming to maintain the cleanliness of all areas within facility.
• Clean sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures and restock supplies as needs. Floor finish restoration using specialty finishes.
• Maintain and replenish cleaning supplies and materials to ensure adequate stock level.
• Refinish floors, maintain custodial equipment and monitor waste and recycling.
• Monitor and report any facility maintenance issues or damages to the appropriate personnel.
• Supervise part time custodial staff, assign tasks, areas and check progress.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with energy and enthusiasm. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning and custodial methods and techniques including the use of chemicals and floor equipment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic tools, purchasing practices.
• 4 years plus previous custodial experience in a similar facility preferred.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to do minor repairs and maintenance of facility equipment such as ride on scrubbers, carpet cleaning equipment and vacuums.
• Must be able to train and monitor part staff while completing other duties.

Education/Experience

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in larger facilities with multiple types of floors preferred.

Working Conditions

Location: Van Andel Arena

• Must be able to lift 5 pounds unaided.
• Must be able to balance and have good manual dexterity.
• Must be able to kneel for a period of time.
• Must be able to move around the facility and stand for long periods of time during events.
• Must be able to work inside or outside of the building as needed by our events
• Must be able to use ladders and lifts.
• Must be able to work around dust and chemicals using proper PPE.
