This job works administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients.

Education

Required Master's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)

Certifications

Required State of Louisiana License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

Job Duties

• Documents patient procedures and incidents
• Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia
• Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques
• Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families
• Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
