Community Engagement Specialist

This role serves as the primary liaison between the organization and key community partners embedded in medical, coroner, funeral service, and related community partners. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for the entire relationship lifecycle:

  • Identification of relevant stakeholders in assigned territory.
  • Strategically cultivate relationship building,
  • Communicate and activate a compelling call to action.
  • Actively self-manage a portfolio of relationships composed of a wide range of stakeholder characteristics.
  • Maintain relationships through moderate to advanced customer relationship management systems and processes. Demonstrated ability to establish routine visit cadence, determine appropriate follow-up strategies, and recognize thresholds of engagement.
  • Curate and execute strategic collaborations that elevate awareness and action to support program goals.

Community Engagement Specialists possess a wide range of communications and relationship building skills. These include:

  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, error-free, and audience-tailored messaging.
  • Outstanding presentation skills, capable of delivering engaging and impactful content across diverse platforms, audiences, and settings.
  • Proven expertise in business writing, including reports, proposals, and strategic communications that drive stakeholder engagement.
  • Skilled in translating complex ideas into accessible language that resonates with community members, partners, and internal teams.
  • Superior active listening skills.

By fostering collaborative partnerships and delivering outstanding customer service, the Community Engagement Specialists maximize partner trust, referral generation, and community awareness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains effective, ongoing relationships with first responders, military and veteran organizations, Medical Examiners, Coroners, funeral service professionals and other community partners to foster awareness, engagement, a compelling call to action and cooperation in the donation process.
  • Serves as a visible and accessible resource, providing timely and effective communication throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Participates in professional associations, conferences, and community events to increase visibility and strengthen partnerships.
  • Provides strategic reporting and documentation pertaining to all activities related to field relationship engagements.
  • Accurately and proactively determines appropriate follow-on activities.
  • Navigates virtual and in-person team collaboration.

Education & Training:

  • Designs and implements educational initiatives and materials for key community partners such as funeral home and medical examiner personnel related to tissue and brain donation.
  • Coordinates and leads professional development activities, including CEU-accredited events.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting tracking daily workflow, outcomes and activity metrics to support continuous improvement and demonstrate program effectiveness.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in sales and marketing, public health communication, or related field or work experience directly related to core activities of this role.
  • 24 years of relevant experience in field-based outreach or similar roles that demonstrate competency in relationship building and management.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data management.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the organ and tissue donation industry or other end of life services.
  • Familiarity with military and veteran cultural competency.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized and demonstrated ability to take initiative in a highly agile environment.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation to support daily field work.
  • Ability to execute partner visits for up to 6.5 hours daily.
