JOB PURPOSE: CNA Phlebotomist must have 1 year of phlebotomy experience
nProvides each of the assigned patients with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the patient’s assessment and care plan, and as directed by the nurse supervisor. Under the direction of the manager, performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately, professionally and in a timely manner.
nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.

Handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged.
n n - n
Correctly identifies all patients to avoid mistakes that can affect treatment.
n n - n
Performs blood collections from patients, mostly older age group
n n - n
Performs specimen processing, preparation and distribution of specimens
n n - n
Maintains a constant awareness of policies, and procedures. Always ensuring enforcement of infection control processes when working with or around patients.

Effectively communicate with patients, reassuring them, making them feel at ease when you are present. Effectively communicates on the phone and face to face by being courteous, prompt and polite. Ability to document all information correctly

Orders and maintains laboratory supplies
n n - n
Responsible for keeping all work areas clean and properly stocked.
n n - n
Handles information with discretion and always maintains confidentiality.
n n - n
Coordinates and consults with lab manager regarding lab related issues.
n n - n
Able to work independently and in a team environment.
n n - n
Comply with all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
n n - n
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
n n - n
Other duties as assigned.
n n
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
n• Computer- must be proficient with Microsoft office and other software programs
n• Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
n• Attends and participates in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required.
n• Attends and participates in mandatory in-services.
n• Honors patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self- determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
n• Complies with corporate compliance program.
n• Reports job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.
n• Follows established safety regulations, to include fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.
n• Follows established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment
nMINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
nHigh school diploma or equivalent.
nGraduate of an approved phlebotomy training program
nMINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
nA minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience required with geriatrics
nMINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
nActive, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistance certification in the appropriate state
nShould be a certified nurse assistant in accordance with the laws of the issuing state
nPhlebotomy Certification
nDriver’s license.
