Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Practices in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration.
2. Evaluates research medication orders for accuracy and performs clinical interventions as required during dispensation. Communicates with research study teams on discrepancies, possible interactions or changes if necessary. Informs study teams of problems and resolutions. Documents all interventions.
3. Develops and implements pharmacy preparation and dispensing guidelines for inpatient and outpatient clinical trials as well as off-hours administration if needed. Educates clinical pharmacy staff on research protocols, including but not limited to, management of patient enrollment and proper documentation methods.
4. Evaluates research protocols and amendments for clinical equipoise, ethical and scientific merit and operational feasibility.
5. Maintains compliance with all written BIDMC Committee on Clinical Investigations (CCI) and Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) policies and procedures to ensure the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects participating in clinical research conducted at BIDMC.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred.
2. License Pharmacist required.
3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
4. Licensed Registered Pharmacist in Massachusetts (or immediate eligibility) required
5. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Research Pharmacy/Investigational Drug Service experience in hospital pharmacy, preferably in an academic medical center setting.
2. Oncology experience in hospital pharmacy, preferably in an academic medical center setting.
3. Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Certification.

5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.

Physical Nature of the Job: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
