Job Details
A caregiver in this role will gain comprehensive experience across pharmacy practice, including main pharmacy staffing, clinical service rotations, order verification and fulfillment, longitudinal projects, and professional presentations. As a PGY1 Clinical Pharmacy Resident, you will actively participate in education, research, and service, with opportunities to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and pharmacy preceptors in both general and specialty areas. This residency provides training in clinical decision-making, drug information, and pharmacy and therapeutics activities while also supporting clinical research. In addition, residents will complete an ambulatory care experience, working an 8-hour clinic day every other week in Lorain or Westlake.
A caregiver in this position work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with flexibility based on rotation. This caregiver will rotate no more than every other weekend.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and provision of pharmaceutical care of patients in the area of service responsibility in a routine continuous manner taking into account the age and clinical condition of each patient.
- Provide and document pharmacotherapeutic recommendations that positively affect patient outcome and document all activities through departmental reports and quality assurance mechanisms.
- Learn how to demonstrate a service orientation toward patients, caregivers and visitors.
- Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.
- Routinely interact with physicians and nurses to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to patients.
- Participate in and support Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities, such as drug use evaluation, adverse drug reaction monitoring, formulary review, and maintenance and assistance in monograph preparation for drug addition to the formulary.
- Serve as an experiential rotation preceptor for pharmacy students and staff pharmacists.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
- Pharmacy Resident Fellows much be completing a Doctor of Pharmacy, Master of Science or PhD
- For PGY-2 residents, certificate of completion for post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY-1) is required within 30 days
- Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of being hired as a Clinical Pharmacy Resident.
- New hires who do not hold a current Ohio Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license, are required to obtain an Ohio Pharmacy Intern license and maintain it until the Ohio RPh license is active
- For individuals required to administer immunizations, current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire
- For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire

- Two letters of recommendation and letter of intent for the role

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
