About the Job

Pastoral Care at Hillsborough Hospital is hiring a Clinical Pastoral Educator Specialist to join their team. The Clinical Pastoral Educator Specialist supervises Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE) accredited programs of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), including:

• Reviewing applications
• Conducting admission interviews
• Admitting interns and residents
• Program planning
• Individual and group supervision
• Final written evaluations

The primary responsibilities include developing and designing CPE programs (all accredited levels) and utilizing institutional outside resources for specialty content. The Clinical Pastoral Educator Specialist provides spiritual care for UNC hospitals in Hillsborough and runs the intern education program.

Responsibilities

• Assume departmental and/or institutional responsibilities (e.g., committee participation) as assigned. Handle administrative responsibilities for the department in the director’s absence.
• Develop and design CPE curriculum and programs, respond to feedback, and ensure compliance with ACPE accreditation requirements.
• Provide direct pastoral care in accordance with professional ethical standards. Offer backup coverage in rotation with other chaplains.
• Educate intern CPE units: review applications, conduct admission interviews, plan units, supervise individuals and groups, and complete final evaluations.
• Educate resident CPE units: review applications, conduct admission interviews, plan units, supervise individuals and groups, and complete final evaluations.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent from an accredited seminary or university.
• Graduation from an accredited college and seminary with necessary ACPE CPE units and endorsement.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Must be certified as an Educator by the ACPE or be a Certified Educator Candidate in Phase II of the ACPE certification process, with certification obtained within 12 months of hire.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Prior pastoral experience in a hospital setting and/or faith community is preferred.
