Clinical Laboratory Team Lead - Molecular Genetics

The Womens Health and Genetics Division is seeking a Laboratory Services Team Lead to join their Molecular Genetics team in RTP, NC. The Molecular Genetics department at CMBP performs a wide array of testing for heritable disorders, including tests for Cystic Fibrosis, Fragile X Syndrome, Thalassemia, Thrombophilia, and many more. Assays performed in the Molecular Genetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including PCR, Next Generation Sequencing, fragment analysis, and gel electrophoresis.

Work Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 3:00pm-11:30pm

Job Responsibilities

  Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the Molecular Genetics department

  n

  Send daily, weekly and monthly productions reports to management

  n
n
• n

  Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees

  n
n
• n

  Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities

  n
n
• n

  Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  n
n
• n

  Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs

  n
n
• n

  Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  n
n
• n

  Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  n
n
• n

  Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  n
n
• n

  Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  n
n
• n

  Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  n
n
• n

  Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  n
n
• n

  Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

  n
n

Requirements

n
• n

  Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements

  n

• n

  Minimum 4 years of experience as a Technologist with a Bachelors degree OR minimum of 2 years of experience as a Technologist with a Master's degree

  n

• n

  ASCP and/or AMT Certifications are a plus

  n
n
• n

  Molecular Genetics experience is highly preferred

  n
n
• n

  Prior supervisory or leadership experience is a plus

  n
n
• n

  Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures

  n
n
• n

  Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office

  n
n
• n

  Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  n
n
• n

  High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills

  n

• n

  Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment

  n

• n

  Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
