Chief Medical Officer (Iraq)

Overview

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for medical oversight, direction, and leadership of the medical staff regarding all areas of healthcare for the project. The CMO will ensure International SOS provides a comprehensive range of medical care to US government employees and contractors in Iraq. They will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care delivery in primary care, urgent care clinics, and initial emergency care services.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervises all healthcare providers at Department of State (DOS) clinics including health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance counseling and education, diagnosis and directed physical exams, emergent and annual vaccinations, and comprehensive STD testing.
• Provides limited chronic care for preexisting, diagnosed, and treated chronic conditions.
• Provides primary care services across specialties including GYN, dermatology, ENT, pulmonary, neurology, cardiovascular, ophthalmology, orthopedics, psychology, and gastroenterology.
• Participates in the assessment and stabilization of patients requiring urgent or emergent care.
• Collaborates with on-site physicians, physician assistants, support staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
• Maintains compliance with all project site procedures, standards, and continuing educational and mandatory training requirements.
• Participates in MASCAL exercises.
• Completes required organizational compliance education, including client-specified requirements for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications

• Board-C certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
• Full unrestricted U.S. licensure in a State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or District of Columbia.
• Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are required.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Minimum 5 years recent experience, including 6 months within the last year.
• Experience on a military site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.

Education Required

• MD or DO degree required, accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the AMA; AAMC LCME or another accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Physical Requirements

• Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
• Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
• May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications

• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card is required.
• Valid US Passport with at least 18 months before expiration; must maintain a current passport during the stay in Iraq.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (MRPT preferred).
• Relocation to Iraq for the duration of the project.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary will be determined by background, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data. Compensation: Min: 360,000; Max: 380,000.
