Certified Medical Assistant I

Responsibilities:

1. Perform the rooming and intake process, including collecting vital signs, height, weight, and information related to the patient’s visit.
2. Gather medical and social history from patients and their families.
3. Review the patient’s current medication, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
4. Assist providers during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
5. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
6. Administer medications as directed by a provider.
7. Conduct tests such as EKGs and eye exams following provider instructions.
8. Review patient records for necessary routine health screenings.
9. Ensure exam and procedure rooms are well-stocked with supplies and educational materials.
10. Provide patients with post-visit follow-up, self-care instructions, and educational resources as directed.
11. Maintain cleanliness and proper stock levels in exam and treatment rooms.
12. Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and arranging tests and referrals.
13. Handle clinic phone inquiries and assist with communication under the guidance of a provider or nurse.
14. Be prepared to assist in emergencies as directed.

Other Information:

Education Requirements: Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred but not mandatory.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA is required, along with Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC.

Professional Experience Requirements: Previous experience as a medical assistant or externship is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage positively with patients and families, capacity to work as a team with staff and providers, and proficiency in using computers for documentation.
