Certified Medical Assistant - Cancer Center 5-1 Urology Durham, NC

The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member of the medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant, Certified performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist patients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.

Clinical responsibilities include greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures, disposing of contaminated forms and instruments, handling billing, bookkeeping, receiving copays, and more. The CMA may also be requested to be a liaison for clinic activities and assist the medical treatment procedures to patients.

Administrative responsibilities include arriving appointments in MaestroCare, checking out patients, referral scheduling, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services, updating and filing patient medical records, filling out insurance collections on account balances, correspondence, and ordering clinical and clerical supplies and forms. Performs other clinical and administrative duties as required.

Good customer service skills, heavy lifting, and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required. Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety precautions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff. Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering medications, infection control procedures, and safety precautions. Typing skills Levels II and III. Ability to independently seek out resources and understand and follow oral and written instructions. Daily clinic preparation process; registration, scheduling, charge routine, and special treatments to patients.
