Please note: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM. Funding available through 09/30/2026; continuance beyond that date is subject to the department's operational needs as outlined in APPM Policy #3200, Employee Classification. UNM-Gallup is looking for a highly motivated and customer-oriented individual to join our team as Caseworker within our Native American Student Success Center Department. The Caseworker is under general supervision, counsels and aids at-risk individuals and/or families requiring one or more forms of psychosocial services; interviews clients experiencing problems with personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, housing, physical and mental impairments, and/or similar areas; secures and evaluates applicable related information; refers clients to community resources and other organizations.

Caseworker will assist with daily operations by performing the following duties:

• Interviews clients with problems such as personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, clothing, housing, and physical and mental impairments to determine nature and degree of need.
• Secures information such as medical, psychological, and social factors contributing to client's situation; evaluates these together with client's strengths.
• Counsels clients individually, in families, or in other small groups regarding plans for meeting needs, and aids clients to mobilize inner capacities and environmental resources to improve social functioning.
• Helps clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of the nature and source of personal problems, and by identifying and building on personal strengths.
• Refers clients to community resources and other organizations as indicated; may determine or participate in determining client's eligibility for financial assistance.
• Compiles records and prepares reports; develops and/or reviews service plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided client and status of client's case.
• Accesses and records client and community resource information, manually or using personal computer, to input and retrieve information.
• May work in collaboration with other professional disciplines.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of employment include: successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum qualifications include: high school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred qualifications include: associate's degree; two or more years of experience in navigating resources for students.
