Cancer Genetic Counselor

Overview

Cancer Genetic Counselor – Part-time position at Los Angeles General Medical Center (LAGMC), Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California.

Responsibilities

• Provide cancer genetic counseling services in a busy academic clinical medical oncology setting.
• Oversee patient care, provide genetic counseling, coordinate follow-up visits and cascade genetic testing.
• Discuss and provide test results to patients; obtain/review medical records; conduct outreach to patients, families, the medical community, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with a growing team of genetic counselors, physicians, and researchers at USC and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Location and Population

LAGMC is one of the largest public hospitals and a leading teaching hospital in Los Angeles. The role includes addressing disparities in genetics and serving a diverse, primarily Spanish-speaking patient population; the counselor will develop linguistically appropriate materials and counseling in other languages as needed.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $68,640.00 – $68,640.00.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Master's degree in Genetics or related field.
• Minimum Certifications: American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification or Active Candidate for Certification status.
• Minimum Experience: < 1 year.
• Minimum Skills: Familiarity with standard industry concepts, practices and procedures; experience in cancer genetic counseling clinics and/or serving underserved populations; strong analytical, decision-making, and independent work capabilities; excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Preferred Experience: 2 years in hereditary cancer risk assessment and counseling.
• Preferred Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish or other languages in addition to English.
