Associate In Research

Associate in Research in pre-clinical hypertension research. Dr. Yang's lab at Duke Department of Medicine has an NIH/NIDDK-funded position for an Associate in Research to study the mechanisms underlying hypertension pathogenesis and hypertension-associated end-organ damage.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs various complex technical duties involved in conducting chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
2. Managing transgenic mouse colonies.
3. Confer with the principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required.
4. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
5. Determine and set up instruments, materials, and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests.
6. Obtain, prepare, mount, and stain tissue, blood, and other substances for microscopic examination.
7. Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
8. Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment for performing duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
9. Review the work of lower-level laboratory personnel within designated areas and assist in training new personnel.
10. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
11. Review the completeness or accuracy of the work of others.
12. Give recommendations, advice, or guidance to others.
13. Review expenses related to materials and supplies and confirm the grant-budget monthly reports.
14. Generating reports of results.
15. Create and maintain laboratory records (protocols and biological materials).
16. Placing orders of lab supplies when needed.
