Salary range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $120,000-$132,400. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the salary scale for this position.

Position description

The Department of Bioengineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego is inviting applications for Research Scientists (non-tenured; Assistant, Associate or Full level) in Bioengineering.

At UC San Diego, Research Scientists are non-tenured, extramurally funded, academic researchers who develop and lead independent research and creative programs similar to Ladder Rank Professors. Research Scientists are expected to serve as Principal Investigators on extramural grants, generate high caliber publications and research products, engage in university and public service, continuously demonstrate independent and creative research activity of high quality and significance, and garner scholarly reputation.

Appointments and duration vary depending on the length of the research project and availability of funding. This academic series is represented by the United Auto Workers of America (UAW) and information about the collective bargaining agreement is available on the UCOP website.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application): PhD in Bioengineering or related engineering discipline is required for this position.

Preferred qualifications : Candidates who have at least one year postdoctoral experience post-degree completion are preferred. Candidates with outstanding writing and communication skills, as demonstrated by a successful publication record, are preferred. We are looking to select exceptional individuals in the development of bioengineering sciences, methods and instrumentation with experience and engineering background in fields such as genomic, molecular, nuclear, cellular, organismal, physiological analysis and design, or functional biomechanics and systems analysis.
