Advanced Practice Professionals Cardiology, Section Of Electrophysiology

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of cardiology/electrophysiology patients, including biological, social, and psychological assessments. The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, peri-operative services, and coordinates discharge planning (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.

Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include but is not limited to.

The minimum qualifications for Nurse Practitioner include: 1. Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing 2. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers 3. Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia. 4. American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

The minimum qualifications for Physician Assistant include: 1. Bachelor's Degree as Physician Assistant, or Master's Degree as Physician Assistant required. 2. Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required. 3. Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required. 4. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine. 5. American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Core duties and responsibilities include: managing comprehensive and individualized care for cardiology/electrophysiology patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization and immediate post discharge in the ambulatory setting; completing daily rounds; consulting and/or pre-procedure/evaluations; participating in electrophysiology conduction studies; performing and communicating results of diagnostic tests; consulting and communicating with clinic and hospital staff; performing succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations; developing a comprehensive individualized plan of care; demonstrating expertise in caring for patients; recognizing emergency situations; evaluating cardiology/electrophysiology patients; assisting in the collection of outcome measures; demonstrating critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills; utilizing equipment in a safe manner; basing decisions on relevant scientific principles; utilizing teaching/learning theory; promoting an environment that facilitates learning; updating the knowledge base; completing all identified clinical competencies; serving as a resource person; providing educational programs; participating in community programs; documenting the plan of care; collaborating to achieve patient outcome-based improvements; providing leadership in the development and implantation; working collaboratively with medical and nursing staff; participating in inter-disciplinary approaches; promoting and practicing innovation; participating and providing leadership for committees; documenting hours; reviewing and interpreting cardiology/electrophysiology data; participating in clinical trials and research studies; and assisting cardiology/electrophysiology faculty.
