The School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science (CS) is seeking a highly motivated academic advisor to support our diverse and growing student population. Our preferred candidate is highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, embraces a growth mindset, and excels at handling a range of advisory responsibilities across multiple degree programs. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by being the primary support for our graduate students, while also assisting with undergraduate advisement as part of our three staff advisement team. Collaboration with the other CS academic advisors, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the advisement manager will be pivotal to ensure the holistic fulfillment of our students' needs. This position offers an opportunity to learn multiple dimensions of academic advisement, engaging with prospective, current, and former students within our school. The selected candidate will advise on academic programs, changes, develop academic degree plans, and have the ability to develop their skills to eventually move into an Academic Advisor, Sr. position.
Provide guidance and assistance to a designated student group throughout their academic journey.
Collaborate closely with the Academic Advisor and advisement manager to ensure comprehensive student support.
Advise students on academic program details, recommended changes, and aid in the development of personalized degree plans.
Foster your own skill development to progress into the Senior Academic Advisor role.
Engage with prospective, current, and former students to address inquiries and provide accurate information.

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Ability to adapt with ever changing priority demands.
Ability to interpret and analyze department, college, and university degree requirements.
Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
Strong self-motivation and a demonstrated growth mindset.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Passion for guiding students towards academic success.
Experience with MS Excel.
Strong speaking and writing skills.

Computer Science (650A) Staff Regular - Full-Time
Non-Exempt Hourly: $18.81 - $25.56
This is a benefits eligible position. The University of New Mexico provides a comprehensive package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. In addition, UNM offers educational benefits through the tuition remission and dependent education programs.
As a condition of employment, eligible employees working greater than .25 FTE as determined by the New Mexico Education Retirement Act must make mandatory retirement contributions.
