The ideal candidate has a proven record teaching high school mathematics and can lead courses such as Algebra I, Algebra II, and Honors Algebra, while preparing students for advanced math pathways including Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE Mathematics, and IB Mathematics. Coursework will integrate career and technical education (CTE) strands (e.g., financial literacy, computer science foundations, engineering applications, and data science) and problem-based learning tied to South Florida's industries and higher education opportunities.

What We're Looking For

  • Instructional Excellence: You design rigorous, engaging, culturally responsive Algebra lessons that ensure mastery for all students.
  • Advanced Program Mindset: You prepare students for higher-level coursework (AP, AICE, IB, Dual Enrollment) by building strong algebraic foundations.
  • CTE Builder: You integrate real-world math applications and industry certifications, and you are eager to grow your own CTE skill set.
  • Data-Driven & Reflective: You analyze student evidence, iterate quickly, and share best practices with colleagues.
  • Heartbeat Aligned: You embody KIPP Miami's Heartbeat Principles by fostering strong relationships, equity, and joy in learning.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Curriculum: Plan and teach a rigorous, standards-aligned Algebra curriculum (including Honors and advanced pathways) that meets Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards and Miami-Dade advanced program expectations.
  • Design unit plans that develop algebraic reasoning, linear and quadratic modeling, functions, and connections to geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis.
  • Incorporate technology-rich instruction with graphing calculators, algebraic modeling software, and coding applications.
  • Use inquiry-driven pedagogy, project-based learning, and authentic applications of algebra to real-world contexts (finance, computer programming, engineering design).
  • Assessment & Data: Develop assessments and performance tasks aligned to state benchmarks and advanced programs; use data to provide targeted support and track mastery.
  • Prepare students for state exams, college-readiness benchmarks, and advanced program entry points (AP, AICE, IB, Dual Enrollment).
  • Advanced Programs & Pathways: Collaborate with the mathematics department to ensure vertical alignment from Algebra I through advanced math courses.
  • Provide equitable access to rigorous coursework that prepares students for AP, AICE, IB, and Dual Enrollment math.
  • CTE Integration: Embed CTE competencies and prepare students for industry-recognized certifications relevant to mathematics applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel Specialist, OSHA-10, Introduction to Coding, Data Analytics Fundamentals).
  • Complete required CTE coursework and state examinations within the prescribed timeline (see Qualifications) and maintain all related credentials.
  • Culture & Family Partnership: Model and uphold KIPP Miami's Heartbeat Principles in all interactions; create an inclusive, purposeful classroom culture with high expectations and joy.
  • Partner with families through transparent progress reporting, student-led conferences, and proactive communication.
  • Professionalism: Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities, content teams, and advanced programs alignment.
  • Contribute to a school-wide culture of continuous improvement through coaching cycles, peer feedback, and shared best practices.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Degree and/or substantive career experience in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, or related STEM field.
  • At least two (2) years of full-time high school teaching experience in mathematics (required).
  • Prior success teaching Algebra I, Algebra II, or Honors Algebra with strong student outcomes.
  • Valid Florida Educator Certificate (or eligibility) in Mathematics (612). (Candidates pursuing reciprocity or temporary certification must be eligible under Florida statutes.)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous instruction and achieve measurable student growth in high school Algebra.
  • Commitment to complete required CTE coursework and pass state CTE examinations relevant to assigned pathways within the first 24 months of employment (tuition/fees may be eligible for reimbursement per KIPP Miami policy).
  • Strong proficiency with instructional technology and data-driven decision-making.
  • Satisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance.
