Compensation & Schedule
- Starting Pay: $29.71/hour (91% of scale)
- Schedule: MondayFriday, occasional Saturdays as needed
- Hours: Approximately 45 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a rear-load garbage truck along designated routes
- Collect refuse and recyclables according to route sheets
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and basic maintenance
- Operate hydraulic controls to lift and dispose of waste
- Maintain professional and courteous interactions with customers
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling items over 100 lbs
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to mechanical parts, moderate noise, and occasional fumes
- Frequent heavy lifting and adherence to strict safety protocols
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement (Class A not required)
- Candidates must have a minimum of one year of experience in waste management, trucking, or heavy equipment operation, and must not have held more than three jobs in the past five years.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Basic knowledge of truck components for pre- and post-trip inspections
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle record (MVR) review, and drug screening, including testing for controlled substances
- This is a safety-sensitive position under Washington State law; pre-employment THC testing is permitted
