Job Description

Responsible to the Director of Surgical Services and Clinical Supervisor for overall nursing practice. Provides professional nursing care based on current perioperative nursing knowledge through the use of AORN Standards and Recommended Practice for Perioperative Nursing. Care includes the use of the nursing process through assessment, analysis, development of a plan of care, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient care outcomes for pediatric through geriatric age populations.

Responsibilities

• Develops and constantly updates a plan of care based on ongoing assessment of the patient.
• Ensures supplies and equipment for the care of the surgical patient are available and functional.
• Maintains a sterile field through the procedure based on principles of asepsis.
• Implements perioperative nursing techniques and responds appropriately to physiological changes.
• Provides patient and family education regarding surgical nursing functions and the operating room.
• Documents all interactions and changes in the plan of care appropriately.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred.
• 2 years prior Operating Room experience required.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); both must be renewed every two years.
