Unit Overview

Unit Type: Observation/Admission Unit
Floor: Same as Emergency Department
Number of Beds: 15
Patient Population: Similar to Med-Surg
- Common Diagnoses:
  - Cardiac rule-out
  - Low HEART score
  - Abdominal pain
  - Pneumonia, COPD, AKI
  - Radiation patients
  - Post-op: Lap chole, appy (low-level surgical)
Certifications Required:
- BLS (required)
- ACLS (preferred)

Staffing & Ratios

Nurse-Patient Ratios:
- Day Shift: 1:5–6
- Night Shift: 1:6–7
Support Staff:
- PCA: 2 per shift
- Charge Nurse: Shared with ED
- Midlevel Coverage: 24/7 assigned to RDU
- Monitor Techs: Centralized monitoring available; RNs must read telemetry

Scheduling

Shift Times: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM / 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
Holiday Requirement: Work 2 out of 5 major holidays (includes eves)
Floating Requirement: May float to Med-Surg Towers
