Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and competency in sterile field techniques.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital on a 22-bed Medical Surgical unit
• Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:4-5
• Patient population includes post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection cases
• Required to work 12-hour day shifts with 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks and coverage for 2 out of 4 major holidays
• Care team includes resource and charge RNs with no PCT support
• RT is assigned to the unit for respiratory care needs
• Potential to float to other med/surg/tele units throughout the hospital
• Cerner is used for electronic medical records
• Travelers are the first to float if needed
• Regular responsibilities include titrating Heparin drips and maintaining sterile field for frequent procedures
• SIMs Lab review on Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes, lifts, restraints, and wound care provided during orientation
• Must adhere to a dress code requiring navy blue scrubs
• No facial piercings permitted; natural hair color required
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Pass/fail skills test on the first day of orientation is strictly enforced
• Self-scheduling is done 4 weeks at a time
• Holiday and weekend coverage is rotated among all staff

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience required
• Experience in Level 1 trauma setting required
• Current BLS certification required
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes mandatory
• Must pass a DYS (dysrhythmia) exam prior to contract acceptance
• SIMs Lab pass/fail skills test on sterile procedures required on day one
• 2 professional references with specific recent employment requirements
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility, determined by driver’s license
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year
• No first-time travelers will be considered
