Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position in California, requiring 3 years of recent experience and a current CA RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on the Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units
• Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, 2 overflow beds, and 27 postpartum beds with a 5-bed nursery
• Patient population includes high-risk deliveries, all gestational ages, EMT drop-offs, substance withdrawal cases, and patients with no prenatal care
• Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines and uses FetalLink with Cerner EMR
• 12-hour day shifts from 7am to 7:30pm with 4 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
• Floating required between L&D, postpartum, and occasional assistance in NICU
• OB techs and resource nurses provide additional support for breaks and procedures
• C-section experience required for circulating; nurses do not need to scrub in
• Optional call requirement, to be discussed in the interview
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Responsibilities include caring for patients with high-risk pregnancies, managing labor and delivery, and providing postpartum care
• Unit regularly handles Spanish-speaking patients and those without prenatal care
• Will circulate during C-sections in a unit with two dedicated C-section suites
• OB/neonatologist available on-site or on-call at all times with a 30-minute response requirement
• Support staff includes OB techs who assist with C-sections and deliveries
• Navy scrubs required per dress code policy
• Holiday coverage typically includes one major and one minor holiday along with the staff
• First-time travelers are preferred to have at least one prior travel contract

Requirements

• Active CA RN license in hand is required
• Minimum 3 years of recent L&D and postpartum experience
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and advanced fetal monitoring (AWOHN intermediate or advanced)
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• Experience with Cerner EMR and FetalLink systems preferred
• Ability to float between L&D, postpartum, and assist in NICU as needed
• Must provide two references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one supervisor or peer from the last 3 years
