Job Details
The Timber Procurement Specialist is essential for developing strong relationships with landowners, loggers, and timber dealers to ensure a steady supply of high-quality logs for our mill. We seek a motivated individual eager to learn and grow, with aspirations for leadership and higher-level responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchase pine stumpage from private landowners.
- Conduct timber cruising on private properties and US Forest Service land.
- Oversee timber harvesting operations to ensure compliance and quality.
- Purchase wood delivered by suppliers and manage procurement transactions.
- Expand the supplier network to align with mill's future production needs.
- Perform field visits to educate loggers on the required specifications for logs.
- Provide backup support by scaling house training.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Manager to meet wood flow and log size requirements.
- Maintain communication with sister mills to support enterprise-wide needs.
- Engage in continual improvement projects in partnership with mill management.
Qualifications:
- Experience with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication abilities.
- Strong analytical capabilities and a teamwork-oriented approach.
- Self-motivated with efficient planning and execution skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn timber cruising, log pricing strategies, timber appraisals, SFI auditing, and best management practices.
- Proven procurement skills with a talent for building supplier relationships and identifying new sourcing opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Forestry, Logistics, Supply Chain Logistics, Natural Resource Management, or Wildlife Management.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement.
- Familiarity with the local area and available contractors.
- Basic understanding of lumber mill operations.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is mandatory.
