Surgical Technologist Position

Summary:

Join a dedicated team as a Surgical Technologist, where you will play a crucial role in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients. Your expertise in maintaining aseptic techniques, providing patient comfort, and ensuring a smooth operating room process will be essential. You will assist in preparing the patient's skin for surgery per hospital standards, transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, and meticulously set up the Operating Room according to the type of case.

Responsibilities:

• Embrace the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Assist with direct patient care under the guidance of a professional nurse during surgical procedures.
• Preferred proficiency in scrubbing for various specialty areas including Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics, etc.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field, pass instruments, as well as sutures to the physician, and assist per the physician's direction.
• Utilize the physician preference card as a resource for case setup and ensure that these cards are current and comprehensive.
• Work efficiently as part of the surgical team, contributing to planning and teamwork.
• Ensure a safe surgical environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices at all times.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in managing surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Follow Universal Barrier Precautions for safety in all patient care situations.
• Monitor and manage the surgical environment, including traffic control and adherence to OR sanitation policies.
• Understand and apply the facility's policies on decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all surgical instruments.
• Adapt patient care responsibilities to address the unique needs of diverse patient populations.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is essential.

Experience

• Preferred 2 or more years of relevant experience.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS certification is required.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting should be obtained within 180 days of graduation, or an active LVN/LPN License is required.
